New York, Brooklyn, Coney Island: 4/7/2007. Just a few days before the last season of carnival-type rides at the historic Coney Island. Looking forward to a future of condos and Las Vegas-style developments saddens the hearts of anyone who has visited the famous Astroland amusement park. The sideshow area and half of the carnival rides have already been removed to leave leveled lots which now await their facelift. I hope to visit Coney Island a few times this year and gather more photos before the landscape of the park is changed forever. This should the the first in a series of posts over the course of the next year.

Please join us at the Powerhouse in Oxford, MS on Wednesday, April 30 for New Docs: An evening of student produced documentary films. All films were produced by currently enrolled students at @southernstudies and @theatrefilmatum. The program includes new entries into the Mississippi Creates collection documenting Mississippi-based visual artists Bill Beckwith and Hayden Hall and musicians @twurtchamberlain and Tim and Susan Lee.
